Booleans not converted per Version History

The version history says:
2.0.0.56 (2007-05-10)
* Boolean fields are represented as 0 and -1. This is a change from 0 and 1.
However, the boolean TRUEs were converted to 1, not -1, and Access doesn't recognize 1 as True. Is there some kind of setting or something that can fix this? This will have to be run against multiple versions of the database, making it hard to maintain with SQL statements to correct.
Here are the pertinent details:
BullZip version: 3.0.0.148 (latest)
Windows XP SP2
Access 2000 (yes, it's a legacy program)
MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver
MySQL Server (Win32) Version 5.1.37
