PDF screen printing to reduce size

Hello,
I had the same problem with a freshly (just yesterday) downloaded version of bullzip. It took me two days of trying to reduce a pdf file (book). It takes ages for the process to finish. I always had the same error message and I had to increase the timeout number. At first I tried 6000 but the error appeared again. I put 12000 and finally it worked.
BUT.. the new file was larger than the original (LOLS)
I don't understand why, I done everything by following the steps given here: http://www.ehow.com/how_8253326_shrink- ... large.html
I didn't want to compress the file so I stopped at step 6.
I set the dpi to 72, printing in screen mode, but the new file is 32,5 MB, while the initial is 24,8 MB!! Btw it's a book of 450 pages.
What can I do to reduce the size of a PDF file by printing it into a new PDF file?
Thank you in advance guys.
