How to change the Word-windows mode and pdf issue

Hello!
At present Im trying to create VB Script for converting PDF and DOC files to tiff-files. I think I have two strong issues:
1. I can't change the Word-windows mode to unvisible while processing DOC to TIFF. It's not good for the script-perfomance to open Word-application window each time to convert to tiff.
2. The script hang each time while converting PDF to TIFF: Acrobat Reader open the next PDF-file, print it to TIFF and don't close automatically - process stopping.
Next I manually close Acrobat Reader and script continue it work to next open PDF-file. Next I have the same problem.
Could you provide me a solution for these issues?
Thanks!
