Using BullZip PDF Printer to print from a DOS application

I've posted a page on a WordPerfect for DOS support site describing how to use BullZip PDF Printer for creating PDF files from the old DOS version of WordPerfect. The method is easily adaptable for any DOS application that can print to PostScript printers. http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/wpdos/pdfprin...

Strange that that file is absent - it's the descriptive file for the Apple Color LaserWriter that Bullzip uses as a "virtual" printer. You might try adding the Apple Color LaserWriter printer to your XP setup (use the Add Printer dialog in the Printer control panel), install Bullzip, and t...

I think this should work. Modify the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers\BullZip PDF Printer\DsDriver

Change the value of printMediaReady from Letter to A4

Can't guarantee that this will work, but might be worth trying.

I'm not sure why the program doesn't run from settings.ini, but try using the short 8.3 filename for the program, like this: AfterPrintProgram=c:\progra~1\BullZip\PDFPri~1\PostBull.exe Unfortunately, as described in another thread, any program run from the SettingsProgram will NOT affect the path an...

SettingsProgram setting applied after creating file?

OK, I finally figured out that you send the SettingsProgram the parameter "C:\Program Files\BullZip\PDF Printer\temp\BullZip PDF Settings.ini' (or whatever the location might be), and that the settings program is supposed to modify that file. So I wrote a program that reads a filename from insi...

I figured out that this seems to have been a problem in the way I was printing the file from WordPerfect - I was using a macro that first used your CONFIG program to send an output file setting, then printed the document from WP to the PDF Printer, then used your CONFIG again to remove the output se...

Large graphics output produces PDF with first page only

I've come across a problem that may be Ghostscript-related, because it occurs in BullZip PDF Printer and also in PrimoPDF (which I like a lot less, but which is somewhat similar). WordPerfect for DOS 6.x has an option to print fonts graphically (as bitmap images) instead of as ordinary text. If this...

Yes - it turns that this was easy to solve by putting the subst commands in an autoexnt.bat file and running that file at startup by using the AutoExNT service as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=243486 This has the advantage of getting all the Subst commands out of my ...

Yes - I'm certain that you're right about that. I should have thought of it myself! Maybe I can figure out how to run SUBST as a service and solve the problem that way...

Problem with output on a SUBST drive

I use SUBST to assign drive letters to folders, like this: SUBST w: d:\work This has been perfectly legal in DOS and Windows since DOS 3.0 If I set BullZip PDF Printer output to w:\test.pdf, then Adobe Reader complains that it can't find the file when I ask to view it (or have settings.ini set to sh...

Download printraw.exe from here:

http://www.andtechnologies.com/printraw.html

and use it to send a PostScript file to the printer. Otherwise, you print from an application's print dialog.

More about this: I've now rewritten my SettingsProgram program so that it uses the CONFIG program to change the Output= line in settings.ini. But the setting is not changed for the current PDF print job - only for the next one. Is there a way of setting the output filename for the current print job ...
