Adobe Reader error 18

Adobe Reader shows the message box:

There was a problem processing a page. There was a problem reading this document (18).

This has been reproduced by creating a PDF document from Microsoft Publisher. The problem was a specific image in the document. When the image was removed the created PDF document was valid.

The workaround was to save the picture in the publisher document as a different image type and replace the original with the exported image.
